TOLL OF AIR RAIDS WITHOUT A.R.P.

M.P.'s Estimate

Of Casualties

Basing his figures on recent bombing statis- tics, Mr. Oliver Simmonds, M.P., gave estimates to the Air Raid Protection Institute on the probable casualty roll in air raids without A.R.P.

Mr. Simmonds was delivering his presidential address to the Institute at the Royal Society of Arts, Adelphi.

He pointed out that during the last war five persons were killed and 12 injured by each ton of bombs dropped. Taking the reliable figures available on bombing in Spain and China and other factors, it might be assumed that in urban areas of average population density-20,000 per square mile casualties in future raids would be roughly 10 killed and 20 wounded per ton of bombs.
