The statement in the House of Commons by Mr. Chamberlain, that the British Government is prepared to exchange with the Reich similar assurances to those in the Anglo- Polish Mutual Assistance Pact, has been received with reserve.
It is argued that this would lend to a system of mutual assistance pacts overlapping one another, so that, in the event of a serious con- flict, the individual partners would have to wait blindfolded to see what decision London reached, that is to say, which

GERMAN FLEET LEAVES CEUTA

Part of the German fleet which has been carrying out “exercises” in Spanish waters left Ceuta in Spanish Morocco yesterday.
