It was an essential feature of the scheme that casualties ́ should not remain long under treatment in the more vulnerable areas. .
Arrangements had already been made to put additional beds into all institutions in the safer areas which were capable of becoming base hospitals for the treatment of casualties.

Crew Reach Island
In Lifeboats
Wireless messages received at New York reported that the crew of the San Francisco steamer, Point Vincente, 4,744 tons, took to the lifeboats when the vessel started to break up in surf off Bona Island, 20 miles from Bal boa, at the Pacific entrance to the Panama Canali
It is believed that the crew have all succeeded in reaching the island. The United States cruiser Charleston is going to the rescue.
