A most enjoyable evening spent at the Hong Kong Bowling Alleys when the final of the Ewo Bowl- ing League in which the Competitors beat the Hong Kong Wonders by 243 points, yesterday.

At the end of the match, the Ewo Cup was presented to the winning cap- tain, E. Hearther, by Mr. H. Odell on behalf of the Ewo League.

Blue Peter's Success In 2,000 Guineas

The two Thousand Guineas run at Newmarket yesterday over a mile resulted in a win for Blue Peter, ridden by E. Smith, by a length and a half from Admiral's Walk with Harry Wragg in the sad- dle. Fairstone, ridden by Beary, was placed third by three-quarter of a length.

Hunt, Hon. representative of the Royal Life Saving Society, stated that at 1.30 p.m, on July 20, 1938, Roza-Pereira was about to take a swim in the Club pool when he heard shouts from outside. He went out and saw three or four others swimming to the aid of a person in difficulties. The nullah, out of which the man had been washed, was running strongly. Mr. Pereira dived in to assist. He overtook the others, but when he reached the drowning man, he had dis appeared beneath the muddy waters.

Mr. Poreira dived, and fortunately came in contact with the man's coat. He hapled him to the surface and as- slated in taking him aboard a Naval launch. On board the launch, Mr. Pereira applied artificial respiration and made excellent progress until blood seen oozing out of the man's mouth. He had, apparently, suffered internal injuries in his rough passage down the nullah. The man was re- moved to hospital.
