30,000 MORE ON NATIONAL SERVICE RESERVED LIST
BRITAIN TO RETAIN CAPITAL PUNISHMENT
London, April 20.
The Permanent Committee of the House of Commons to-day re- jected, by a vote of sixteen to seven, a proposal for the abolition of capital, punishment for a period of five years. The proposal was submitted by a Labour Member, Mr. George Benson.

Persistent rumours along the ! waterfront this morning alleged the seizure by the Japanese Navy somewhere off Saigon of the Hong Kong steamer "Helikon.”

Important changes and additions in the Sche- dule of Reserved Occupations (Provisional) relat- ing to National Service are announced by the Min- istry of Labour. The main effects are as follows:
Women in occupations included in the schedule are reserved irrespective of age, except shop assis- tants and certain workers of a similar type, for whom the age of reservation will be 25.
Workers in many industries, already reserved, will have the restriction lifted if they wish to be- come members of aircraft crews. The age of re- servation has been reduced in 'a few occupations and increased in others.

About 30,000 more workers have been reserved by the addition of new occupations to the schedule.
Industries affected by removing male labour which could take the restriction on men who desire place of some male labour in to join the R.A.F.
