NEW SPORT FOR COLONY

Racing Pigeon Club Attracts Large Number Of Enthusiasts

SHANGHAI TO H.K. RACE ENVISAGED

(By "ADREM”)

HONG KONG has taken unto itself yet another sport, a nice clean sport and one which should commend itself to many who have never given pigeons a thought.

For that's what it is-pigeon racing.

It sounds tame enough but members of the newly-formed Hong Kong Racing Pigeon Club will tell you that it is a most interesting and fascinating pastime and if present schemes for the Colony go through, there is no limit to the scope which will be opened up for fanciers.

HOCKEY

Colony's Third Success

The Hong Kong Women's hockey team capped a successful three days of hockey with a brilliant win over the Shanghai Women's champions, the "Greens" whom they beat by the con- vincing margin of 8 goals to 1, after leading by 41 at the interval,

Hong Kong won the Interport match on Saturday by 4-0, and on Sunday. beat the Rest of Shanghai by 4-2, after being two goals down at the in terval.

The Interport dinner and dance takes place at the Shanghai Race Club to

night.

INTERNATIONAL TOURNEY

TO-MORROW

It may sound a triffe ambitious considering that organised pigeon racing here is still in its infancy, but I have been told that as soon as conditions out here clear up a bit, races from Shanghai to Hong Kong a matter of 700 miles as the crow, or rather I should will be say the pigeon, flies held regularly.

Man behind the new Club is J. T. K. Gilchrist, who has bred

and raced-pigeons for years.

Unfortunately from his point of view, only opportunities Gilchrist has had to try his birds out against others, was when he went on leave

Everton's Smashing Victory

· London, To-day.

By a smashing victory over Sun- derland yesterday, Everton practi- cally assured themselves of the First Division championship, hav- ing secured maximum points dur- ing the Easter programme. With four matches to play, they have an eight points lead of Wolves, who have a match in hand. Thus Ever- ton can drop five of their last eight points and still win, even if Wolves win their last five games in suċ- cession,

The Club is not therefore starting from zero. That there are a fairly large number of fanciers in the Colony was in- dicated by the attendance at a meeting which was held recent- ly as a feeler.

Number of people who turned up was in the region of 20.

Gilchrist put his plans before some of his them and recounted experiences at Home. Enthusiasm was stimulated and it was decided definitely that a club' be formed.

The ultimate aim of the or- ganisers is affiliation with the Home Union. This will make It possible for local fanciers to compete in races held in the United Kingdom on the basis of
