London, To-day. Guests at the showing of a naval film on board the new aircraft-carrier "Ark Royal" last evening were surprised by a sen- sational statement by the First Lord of the Ad- miralty, Lord Stanhope.

i.

Lord Stanhope said that a num- ber of guests could not attend the performance because shortly before he had left the Admiralty, it had become necessary to give the order to mah the anti-air- aircraft guns of the Navy, so that they might be prepared for any- thing that might happen.

The Navy takes precautionary measures, he declared, and is al- ways prepared.
