ITALY PERTURBED
BY
GERMAN-POLISH AGAIN THAT
SITUATION
Rome, To-day.
"Italy does not intend to remain a prisoner in the Mediterranean," was Mussolini's only com- ment on international affairs in a speech at Cosenza, in Calabria, yesterday.
Italians at present are more perturbed by relations between Germany and Poland than by the French Premier's speech.
Those Italians who are not wholly Fascists and not wholly in favour of the Rome-Berlin Axis, think the danger point for Europe is Poland.
If Germany shows resentment at Warsaw's refusal of its suggestions Italians and marches, then many declare the Axis might not bear the strain.
Commenting on the French Pre- who mier's speech, Signor Gayda, usually expresses Mussolini's opin- ions, writes in "Giornale d'Italia." **The French have definitely shown that they want to slam the door we left open, but Italy is not impatient. She can wait."--Reuter.
Holy Roman Empire Dream Again
Berlin, To-day.
The "Hamburger Fremdenblatt," the German well connected with
Foreign Office, points out that Mus- colini on Sunday clearly defined the present situation by mentioning Djibuti, Tunis and Suez. The pa- per believes that the echo to Dala- dler's speech in the Italian press will make Italy's point of view clear beyond any possible doubt.
ré-
Daladier's reference to Germany's "aggressive intentions" are sharply taken up by the paper, which fers to French and British rearma- ment and argues that events Central Europe are but the logical outcome of "applied historic jus- tice."

ROMAN EMPIRE MIRAGE
Berlin, To-day,
"A very meagre contribution to international policy," is the con- census of opinion in Nazi political circles on the French Premier's speech.
France, it is said here, has chosen to evade the issue and has thus assumed a position diametric- ally opposite to that of nations "which are working for a new order in Europe.”
The "Berliner Lokal Anxeiger" says: "It is entirely correct on the part of the Italian press to em- phasise the heavy responsibility assumed by M. Daladier in repeat- ing his 'Never.'
"This 'never' may have a har- monious ring for French ears and may even call forth hosannas from the enemies of Fascism but it signifies failure to comprehend the realistic factors of power and dan- Ossification in France gerous which finds its expression in fruit- less agitation against inevitable developments."
STRANGE ARGUMENT The paper continues: "If M.
Daladier regards the conquest of Czecho-Slovakia
as a blow to Franco-German understanding, one can only conclude that France saw
her own interests in Bohemia af-
fected, and the fact that she had

The paper asks why M. Daladier clings to the antiquated idea of collective security.
