Rumjahns Enter Semi-Final
Razack And Minu Beaten In Open Doubles

S. A. and H. D. Rumjahn yesterday entered the semi-final round of the Colony Open Doubles lawn tennis championship, at Hong Kong Cricket Club, when they beat I. M. A. Razack and A. R. Minu 6-4, 7-8,
in an encounter featured by thrilling volleying duels`at-the net and bad footfaulting.
The Rumjahns always looked as if they had something in re-
serve and indeed, if they had taken advantage of all the mistakes
of their opponents, would have ended the match in less than half an hour.
The stand court was in use for the first time and line judges were in attendance, making the match more enjoyable to .watch. Both Minu and S. A. Rumjahn, however the latter in particular, were guilty of footbaulting, but it was not un- til the 10th game in the second set that Rumjahn was penalised by the baseline judge. This upset his play to such an extent that he double- faulted and conceded his first ser- vice game.
H. D. Rumjahn was the steadiest of the four players, his cross-court driving on either hand scoring re- peatedly, while his volleying was excellent. "Sirdar" showed a dis- tinct improvement from midcourt and was rarely beaten in the volley- ing duels at the net.
