SUICIDE OF WELL-KNOWN AUSTRALIAN

It was revealed this morn- ing that Mr. G. E. Dudley, Secretary of Messrs. W. S. Bailey and Co., whose death was reported in the niorn- ing papers, shot himself in his office at 4.10 p.m. yester- day.

Police and all connected with the matter are tremely reticent.

It is stated authoritatively however, that Mr. Dudley shot himself in the presence of Mr. Donald Black, the auditor, and the manager of Bailey's, Mr. A. A. Dand.

Mr. Black had been talking to Mr. Dudley and Mr. Dand was just entering the room when the deceased took a revolver belonging to office from a drawer

The late Mr. Dudley, who 48 years of age, was born at Seven Hills, South Australia, at the out- break of war joined the Australian Light Horse and saw service at Gallipoli and in France.

After the war Mr. Dudley connected with various commercial later enterprises in Australia and spent some years in the South Seas managing copra plantations. 1932 he came to Hong Kong from New Guinea to take up the post he held until his death.
