STILL STILL GOES
ON OUTSIDE MADRID
MIAJA PURGE OF OFFICERS
Paris, To-day.
Although General Miaja has succeeded in getting control of the situation in Madrid, itself he has been unable so far to dislodge the Communists from strongly entrenched positions in the west- ern suburbs of Canillejas and Barajas. Fierce fighting has been going on in these suburbs and in the neighbourhood of Prado Palace since Sunday morning.

In spite of several appeals to surrender made by the Defence Junta they are continuing to hold out with great stubbornness in their besieged positions..
