How much do you mean

Though you can't remember your very first kiss, your mother will re- collect pressing her lips to a tiny, soft, roselike object that was you.

The kiss of a mother for her new- born babe is the most beautiful ex; pression of love in the world.

After the pain has come sweetness. It is there in her arms-it's won- derful little downy head peeping out from soft wrappings.

And then there's the other kind of kiss.

The timid, proud kiss of a father when he first sees his child.

Not so exquisitely tender as the mother's kiss, but no less fond. The father is a little afraid of this small living miracle which he helped to create.

Do you remember being seriously ill? Or perhaps someone you loved dearly was in danger of dying?

Suddenly recovery set in You kissed each other.

Wasn't it marvellous to feel new life, new hope, new faith?

That kiss had tears of gladness in its giving and in its taking.

When you were a small boy or girl --perhaps you were separated from your loved ones at home for the first time. Do you remember kissing mummy and daddy just as the train steamed off?.

You felt so small and afraid, but you wouldn't show it. Mummy had tears in her eyes. Daddy was fright- fully jovial.

That was the kiss of your first independence.

The kiss, shy and rapid, that you exchanged one spring evening under the blossoming apple, trees with the boy next door was the kiss that. betokened the passing of your mu- tual childhoods,

And then you fell in love.

Do you remember the wonderful moment when you and the one you loved kissed each other for the first time?

You may have been present at the passing of a greatly loved soul.

Quiet and dry-eyed, or perhaps sobbing, you realised the beauty of death for the first time.

You loathed the very thought, but you had to be nice and polite, so you gave a rapid peck at the horried face and ran away.

Then have you known, too, the kiss that meant the end of a quar rel?

It may have been a tiff that seemed silly and stupid.

Or perhaps it was one of those real quarrels when bitterness blinds the way to all reconciliation.

You were hesitant about the kiss that healed it all.

You were shy about the giving of it because it meant, perhaps, the throwing overboard of what you Then there were other kisses. Too thought were "principles." and be many, perhaps.

You fell out of love, and for a time you may have kissed many people. Light, stupid lisses, which meant nothing to you or the other

person.

You were seeking, perhaps consciously, to find love again.

But 'suddenly you were in his arms, and all mean thoughts were forgotten.

A kiss like that has been the most un-important thing in many married

couple's lives.

WHEN THEY BEGIN TO CRAWL

When your baby is nearing nino months old; he'll be off on all fours, exploring!

And, with no more ado, he'll be gono-after the coal-scuttle, or maybe that box! So, If you're going to be busy it is wise to in- yest in a play pen, where you know baby will be safe and happy till you're free.

Do see, though, that it is raised a few inches from the draughty flour, otherwise your child will soon get cold, and then ho'll become discontented..

Little fingere were made to be used-in baby's estimation! It is surprising how active small hands become round about the crawling

Kisses are a beautiful way of ex- pressing every emotion or affec- tion.

Isn't it wrong to make them cheap and empty?

You could not realise would never hear that person laugh again.

The day you became engaged. The kiss you exchanged was full of happiness at the thought that you would always be together.

Then, married. you both shared

a secret that in a few months would come true.

You kissed each other so tender- ly the moment you knew your dear- est wishes would be realised.

And then you grew older, and your children left you to go away to school, to work, to be married.

Each time you kissed them fondly. You smiled at them, though there was heartbreak in your kiss..

It seemed you had had them such a very short time to yourselves, and now they had left you.

But your early joy was when, in the course of time, a little grandchild was placed in your arms for the first time and you kissed its tiny cheek.

And there were the kisses of farewell. At stations. at home.

As the last moment came you kiss- ed the departing one with lingering lips. You couldn't bear to be parted, but it was inevitable.
