England's Disastrous Start
Fifth And Final Test Match Will Be Long Drawn Out Affair Owing To Rain
PERKS MAKES EXCELLENT DEBUT AS ENGLAND BOWLER

· Outstanding feature of the third day's play in the Fifth and .final Test Match between South Africa and England, which was re- sumed here yesterday morning, was the Springboks' new record total against an England side, scoring 530 in ・ 781 minutes to sur- pass the previous highest of 513 for 8 dec. in Capetown, in 1931.
A. D. Nourse 77 and R. E. Grieveson resumed South Africa's innings, the former going on to reach his first Test century against England in 356 minutes, scoring six boundaries and simultaneously, the partnership had realised 100 in 134 minutes.
Three runs later Nourse fell to a yorker off Perks. Langton followed and together with Grieveson took
the score to 490 for 7 at lunch,
