Rooty-Hill Derby Contenders
PERFECT JUDGMENT
One of the best examples of a perfectly judged race was provid- ed by Mr. "Vic" Needa last Tues- day when he brought in Mrs. T. E Pearce's Hyndford Bridge for a win, by half a length, over Mr. Li Po Chun's Conquering Time (Mr. J. Pote-Hunt) in the Hopeful Stakes, which attracted only two starters. Mr. Needa forced Con. quering Time to act as "amah" and then judged his final effort to per- fcction. Our photographs show. (top left) the finish and (left) Mrs. Pearce leading in her candi- date, which scored its first win.
The Rooty-Hill Derby provided. a rare upset, Messrs. Chau Bro's, Triumphant Day (Mr. B. L. Tao) winning by three lengths to pay $415.30 for a win and $17.80 for s place, (Top right) Triumphant Day after the race, with Mr. Tao in the background. (light) Mr. John Peel's Cockterol, with Mr. "Vie" Needa, which placed third after going out a hot favourite.
