As a result of the recent fire at the Talkoketui Shantytown, near the Ko Shing Theatre, where some sixty huts were burned out, the area has been entirely cleared on official instructions and the occu- pants ordered to the Refugee Camp at Matauchung.
Shouldering- acanty belong- ings, some hundreds of beg- gars, destitutes and homeless coo- Iles (male and female) hiked through Kowloon's streets yester day to Matauchung, Kowloon City, where they were given shelter in the Government Refugee Camp.
The three-mile march followed Government orders to vacate the shantytowns on the open spaces behind the Cosmopolitan Dock- yard and at Taikoktṣui which were covered with scores of squat ters' huts, housing some of the Colony's poorest Chinese popula- tion. ::
The Government, however, per- mitted the "evicted" to proceed to. the Matauchung Refugee Camp where they are at present.
Orders were given for the home- ess to vacate by to-morrow at the latest, but a visit to the spots this afternoon by the "China Mail" re- presentative, revealed that the squatters had not waited for "exe- cution," but had already left for their new "homo."
Kwangchowwan, To-day:

Most of the villages near the. coast are being evacuated and hundreds of villagers are trekking the inland on the instructions of Chinese authorities. Our Own Correspondent.
