BRITAIN TO OFFER PLAN TO PALESTINE CONFERENCE Long Arab-Jewish Talks Reveal Differences ANNUAL RACE MEETING OPENS

DERBY UPSET

Bright, sunny weather, without threat of the badly need- ed rain that was expected, fa- voured the opening of the Joc- key Club's Annual Race Meeting at the Valley, and soon after 10.30 a.m. the public entrances were surrounded by excited Chinese crowds.

Jockey Club officials were given a harassing time at their city office, an eager crowd comprising ull nationalities literally battling during the one hour allowed them for through tickets and books of tickets on the mammoth Derby sweep, the first prize in which now exceeds $200,000. Arriving at the course soon after, the same officials were kept busy without a break satisfying the crowds clamouring for Derby sweep tic- kets, the total number sold at .10.30 a.m. being 540,0001

A word of tribute must be paid those responsible for the splen. did condition of the track, which, despite the sad lack of rain, is in excellent shape and which is ex- pected to produce some fast times. The Club lawns are al- most perfect and the flower beds have never been more colourful.. Truly the Jockey Club, from the roof of which flutter the colours: of the respective owners, presents picture worthy of the occasion.
