Army Win T.T. Hockey Tourney
Club Fail To Score
Score From Two Penalty Bullies! Bond And Data Ram Give Brilliant Performances
A
CLUB ATTACK MISSED SERVICES OF T. WHITLEY AND BICKFORD
(By "STICKS")
DEATHLY SII ENCE, the click of sticks meeting three times and a great shout as Carter sent the ball out of the circle and, out of Sydney Fowler's stick saw Army emerge winners of the Trian- gular Hockey Tournament as a result of sharing two goals with Club yesterday on the Club's ground at King's Park.
Before the start of the game Army had to win or force a draw in order to win the Tournament as they had won two and drawn one in three games played, while Club needed a victory to succeed, hav- ing won two and lost one.
The game was fraught with| excitement for although
both
teams were under strength,} Army were always a little ahead of Club in spite of the fact that they had two penalty bullies awarded against them one in each half.
Club forwards lacked combina- tion and understanding. In absence of Whitley and Bickford, both of whom have left the Colony, Pontius and Morgan, from the sec- ond eleven filled the vacancies, but they were rarely in the picture, ly- ing either too far back to be of any use, or crowding Divett in the .centre.
Full-Backs Shine
Outstanding features of yester- day's encounter was provided by full-backs on the respective teams, Data Ram, for Army, and Bond, for Club. Both cleared their lines very effectively, while Data Ram's unerring accuracy from short corn- ers has earned for him the distinc- tion of being the best goal-scorer in this department, for it was he who placed the Army in the lead, scoring in the right-corner through a crowd of players.
