Girl On Knee As He Shot Friend

While his sweetheart was on his knee a young man at Ossett (Yorks) accidentally shot dead their friend who was sitting a few feet away on a couch with another girl.

To-day Miss Norah Morris, nine- teen, of Stithy-street, Ossett, des- cribing the tragedy, told how the bullet grazed her arm as she sat on her sweetheart's knee.

The dead boy was Frank Tilford, seventeen, garage workers, of Town End, Ossett. It was his own pistol that killed him.

Miss Morris, at the inquest, told the coroner, Mr. C. J. Haworth, that on Wednesday evening she had gone with her sweetheart, Gilbert Stephenson, to his grandmother's house in Dale-street.

"When we got there," she said, "I saw Frank. He was sitting on a couch with Dorothy Stephenson- Gilbert's sister.
