There is a rule in Courts that requires a

criminal witness

when repeating the words of other persons to use their exact words and also speak in the first person, and this has now and again led to amusing Court in- cidents.

"Witness," the Judge asked, "did the prisoner say 'I stole the horse' ?"

Second Thoughts

Recently the Leicester City ma- gistrates fined a Bradford mo- torist 40s. on a speeding charge. and ordered his licence to be en- dorsed; later on they recalled the motorist and a police witness and further considered the summons. They then reduced the find to 208., but would not agree to the defendant's suggestion that he should pay the full 408, and his, licence should not be endorsed.
