SHIPWRECK RESCUE COINCIDENCE
A remarkable coincidence lies behind the rescue of passengers from the Norwegian motor-ship Hoegh Silvercrest; 5,480 tons, as- hore in San Bernardino Strait, Philippines.
The passengers were rescued by a boat, from the British motor ship Silveryew, commanded by Chief Officer Bloye.
In November, 1985, Chief Officer. Bloye was himself wrecked in San Bernardino Strait. He was then Second Officer of the British motor ship Silverhazel. When the 'Cap- tain and First Officer of that ship were drowned-Second Officer Bloye took charge and brought a number of the crew to a ledge of rock, where they were eventually rescued.
The seas are wide; and that an officer of the Merchant Marine should be involved in rescuing those on board two ships, wrecked on the same spot three years apart, is surely the lease likely happen- ing, but it has happened.
