Before proceeding to discussion of a private member's motion on a scheme for pensions for past members of the House over 60 with less than £3 weekly on which to live, moved by Sir Assheton Pownall and seconded by another Conservative member, the House of Commons yesterday gave a second reading to the Bill providing for taking of a census of production.
The House finished the commit- tee stage of the Bill extending the powers of the Board. of trade to give guarantees up to a maximum of £75,000,000 instead of. £50,000,- 000, as at present, for the purpose of establishing or encouraging oversea trade.
Replying to the debate, the Secretary of the Department of Oversea Trade, Mr. R. S. Hudson, mentioned that the net increase in capital commitment of the Export Credits Guarantee Fund since the Bill was introduced last December was £1,500,000.
