EVIDENCE OF A NEW SPIRIT IN WHITEHALL
READINESS TO FACE ALL CONTINGENCIES
London, January, 28.
British diplomatic correspondents to-day were featuring the vigorous, challenging tone with which British ministers have been making their speeches as evidence of a new spirit in Whitehall.
These correspondents believed anxiety and preoccupation still prevails among the cabinet ministers, which will continue as long as Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini continue their present ways, but that there is a confidence and quiet readiness to face all possible contingencies.

MUNICH PACT
According to Italian estimates quoted in Field-Marshal Geor ing's newspaper, the “National Zeitung of Essen, Germany's first-line strength before the Munich conference amounted to 3,000 machines.
It was added that on the basis of the current building programme this would be in- creased to 6,000 by 1940-41. These figures were thought to be just about correct by cap- able foreign observers in Ber- lin.
