Wu Pei-Fu Incensed At Japanese Inference

Peiping, To-day.

WHILE the Japanese press interprets the inter- view given by the old-time Anfu war lord, Mar- shal Wu Pei-fu, to foreign correspondents, as acceptance of the Japanese terms and presag- ing his certain emergence from retirement, the Marshal's close associates declare that he is. incensed at this interpretation.

The Marshal has not accepted the Japanese terms, they state, and he even declared that he wanted the withdrawal of Japanese forces from some parts of China in order to leave him in real command of this

area.

Otherwise, they say, he will not emerge from retirement.

Some circles declare that Marshal Wu Pei-fu has never uttered a word against the Chungking Government, but that he is anti-Communist. ・・

It appears that no immediate success is likely of the Japanese efforts to secure peace through popular movement headed by the veteran Marshal-Reuter.
