THREE NEW LINERS

FOR THE

$100,000,000 Plans In Washington

Washington.

The U.S. Maritime commission has projected for next year a $100,000,000 shipbuilding pro- gramme including construction of three passenger liners for trans-Pacific service.

J

When the commission began functioning, it set a goal of 50 new ships annually for the next ten years to rejuvenate a merchant marine made up largely of slow, obsolete vessels.

It was successful this year in putting on the ways or letting construction contracts for 50 modern cargo and passenger carriers.

I thought the director would never be satisfied with the scene. Once he got so interested that he climb- ed in the tub with me-there was no water in it then.
