YAUMATI SCHOOL PRIZE-GIVING

Mrs. F. J. de Rome distributed the prizes at the annual prize-giv- ing at Yaumati Government School this morning.

Mr. G. W. Reeve, the Headmas- ter, in the course of his report, said that 89 per cent. of the boys who sat for entry into King's and Queen's Colleges passed and seven scholarships were won.

One of the pupils, Chan Hon- kit,. came first out of the 357 boys examined.

Mr. Reeve mentioned that the or- ganised physical training which the boys of the school are receiving is a part of the daily time table, and not something apart from it. Each class gets two forty minute periods a week. During the year, the school has been gradually acquiring the apparatus re- quired by the Instructor, and when this is complete it is hoped to arrange for one or two P.T. displays within the school.

"To parents who may still be doubt- ful about the efficacy of this part of their sons' training I would tell them to do this-watch young boys playing a game of football and then watch older boys. Paris, To-day. Senor del Vayo, the Spanish For- eign Minister, has been in long consultations with M. Bonnet, French Foreign Minister, follow- ing which M. Daladier and M. Bonnet discussed the Spanish situa- tion with other members of the Cabinet.

It is believed that permission for entry of Spanish refugees across the frontier has been given to Senor del Vayo.-Trans-Ocean.

CLOUDY WEATHER

The Royal Observatory reports that the anti-cyclone has decreased in intensity and extend consider- ably to the eastward. Pressure is highest over the Yellow Sea and Korea. Forecast:- N. E. winds, fresh; cloudy generally.

Au Sheng, 30, carpenter, was this morning fined $50 for keeping a gaming house at 689, Shanghai Street, 3rd. floor. The premises were raided on January 23 and 17 gamblers were arrested.
