CIVILIAN-ARMY LAI WAH CUP CLASH

Watson & Grogan Make Farewell Appearance

SOLDIERS FAVOURED TO ENTER THE FINAL

(By "REFEREE")

Local

Football

Forecast

Some very exciting football should be witnessed on the K.F.C. SATURDAY, 21ST JANUARY, 1939 ground this afternoon when the Civilians meet the Army in the semi-final round of the Lai Wah Cup competition, this marking the farewell appearance of two of Army's outstanding players.

Watson, the Army and Middlesex right-back, and Grogan, Army and Middlesex right-winger, will be leaving for England on Monday by the Dilwara and will be turning out for the last time this after-

noon.

An outstanding feature of the Army team is the inclusion of Munton, of the Ordnance Corps, at centre-forward, this being the third occasion an R.A.0.C. Third Division player has been in- cluded in Army's representative Club ground, should provide one of the outstanding games of the new year, despite the absence of several well-known South China

team.

Calvert, who played for the Colony against Macao last year in the Junior Interport, will be seen on the left-wing of the Army team and should receive excellent sup- port from Saw, probably one of the finest inside forwards in the Colony at the moment.

THREE K.F.C. PLAYERS The Civilians will also be strong- ly represented, particularly in the defence which includes three Kow- loon F. C. players in Ulrich (left- back), A. S. Bliss (pivot) (captain and Honniball (left-half). The only comment I can make on the forward line is the apparent weak- ness at inside-left where Howlett's approach methods are likely to slow down their attacking movements.

It should be a very close with the odds on the Army, invariably emerge successful in these representative games.

THIRD DIV.

LEAGUE SOCCER CARD NEAR TO COMPLETION

Some Interesting Junior Clashes

(By "UBIQUE”)

With the co-operation of the Clubs and uneffected by repre- sentative games, the Third Divi- sion fixtures should be completed within the next fortnight, as sche. duled, after which only the de- ciding games for the Divisional Championship will remain to be played.

The Royal Scots have won the "A" section championship, while the Air Force in the "B" section have only to obtain another point in their two remaining games to earn the right to challenge the Royal Scots for the Third Divi- sion title.

Stonecutters, with two easy games left, seem certain as runners- up of the "B" section, but the same berth in the "A" section remains an interesting position and lies between South China and 30th Bat-- tery R. A.

FORMIDABLE FIXTURE

Both teams have still to meet Royal Scots, but the remaining games of 30th R. A. are not difficult ones, while South China have yet to meet the much improved P.W.D. eleven, who inflicted the first defeat of the season on the Royal Scots last week.

There are no outstanding game... in the Third Division to-day, but at Sookunpoo to-morrow, a good game should be witnessed between South China and Royal Scots, and while the soldiers have nothing more to gain and the Chinese much to lose,. victory will probably go to the Chinese by a small margin.

MUCH MORE INTERESTING

The defeat of South China last week by the Engineers has now made the race for Second Division-- honours much more interesting, as both Middlesex and 5th A.A. Regi-. ment, R. A. are now also in the running.

Several postponed

games have been arranged for to-day and the.. Middlesex, who will be assisted by- Haigh for the last time, should ac- count for Club, while St. Joseph's without the assistance of Ward and--" Pereira, are not expected to win against Ordnance, though the lat-. ter will be without Munton and - Rides, who will be playing for the Army.

The First Division game between Kwong Wah and St. Joseph's should be evenly contested with the Saints winning by a small margin.
