AMERICA'S BROAD HINT ON COTTON

Washington, To-day.

Farm officials indicate that the proposal for an international cot- ton conference made by the Secre- tary for Agriculture, Mr. Henry A. Wallace, was a broad hint that unless other countries join in a co-operative effort the United States may adopt measures to en- able American exporters of cot- ton to meet foreign prices.

It is pointed out that the United States could subsidise cotton ex- ports similar to wheat, or release some of the loan cotton which would lower the American price level, thus facilitating exports.

The opinion is held that intro- duction of the wheat subsidy was largely responsible for the current loans for international wheat con- ferences, and a cotton subsidy might have a similar effect.-Reu- ter.
