The Finance Ministry spokesman, at yesterday's press conference, said he had insufficient in- formation to tell exactly what portion of the total amount of Chinese loans was collected in Japanese-controlled ports.
The percentage in various ports in 1936 was Shang- hai 45.9, Tientsin 10.9, Hankow 7.3 and Canton 3.4.
The spokesman said that the statement regarding cancellation of payments applies only to Cus- toms debts, and other debts were not included. The total amount in principal of long term debts, service of which is secured on: Customs revenue, was equivalent to $2,500,000,000, while the sum due monthly this year on the above obligations was approxi- mately $18,000,000.
Regarding the Boxer Indemnities the monthly amount due to Britain were about £50,000 and to America U.S.$160,000.
