A girl whose voice inspired Lieutenant Norman Baillie-Stewart -the "Officer in the Tower" to write a poem which he dedicated to her, has been married at Chatham.
She was Miss Marjorie Joan Stre- ten, of New-road, Chatham, who married Mr. George Arthur Ward, of the Mercantile. Marine, at St. John's Church, Chatham.
When Baillie-Stewart was in Maidstone Gaol serving a five-years sentence for imparting military secrets to a foreign Power, Miss Streten took part in a prison con- cert.
Afterwards, in the solitude of his cell, Baillie-Stewart wrote a poem which he called "The Voice."
The poem was one of several which Baillie-Stewart wrote while in prison, and which he later published.
