RING BROKEN
The Spanish Government a coun ter-espionage service has broken up an important organisation of in- surgent spies in Catalonia during the past few months, according to an official communique issued in Barcelona.
Military courts have already pro- nounced numerous death sentences, and long terms of imprisonment are to be served by 200 members of Gen. Franco's "White Aid" and secret services,
The leaders of these bodies are reported to include a General Staff major, two lieutenant-colonels of an engineer corps, numerous lesser officers of the Government Army's rearguard services and well-known doctors, lawyers, bankers, priests and political figures.

AIDED ESCAPES.
One of these leaders has also been found guilty of participating in the organisation of a subver- sive movement among the Govern- ment rearguard police, which led to a series of arrests and sentences in August.
Members of the spy ring passed military information to the insur- gents, aided the escape of Fascists from Government territory, organ- ised Fascist cells within the Gov- ernment Army and provoked politi- cal unrest behind the front during insurgent offensives.
