Ajax, sandwiched between two other "A" horses, Adios and Aeolus, made the running soon after the start of a race at Moonee Valley, Melbourne, Australia, and spreadeagled the field to win by two lengths. Ajax broke the 9% furlongs record set up by Manfred thirteen years ago. Photo shows the alphabetical leaders. Ajax in between Adios and Aeolus at the start provides a striking camera study.

LEEDS LAUGHS OVER VICAR'S FISH & CHIPS COMPLAINT
Leeds is laughing over a local poet's lively lampoon in verse on an incident in the church of St. Paul's, Birkenshaw - cum - Huns-, worth.
The vicar, the Rev, J. H. Eding- ton, had complained of people munching fish and chips in church. Here is a sample of the verses: Preaching one night în
the pulpit of a small Yorkshire. church, St. Paul's.
The vicar's eyes were roving
over the empty stalls, The holy words of wisdom were
falling from his lips, When all at once he caught a whiff of somebody's fish and chips.
The
incense floated upwards and dripping filled the air, He traced the guilty offenders and found them sitting there.
.
The vicar was disgusted and asked them to explain, The boy replied, "It's warmer here, than in the cold, dark lane."
Sung to the tune of "The Lost Chord,' the verses-of which there are six in all-have been thrown on the screen at a Leeds cinema.
The audiences recognising the church concerned, lifted up their voices and sang heartily.

MEN DANCE WHILE WOMEN GET MUSCLES
Pull, your socks up, you men, or you may find you have to mend them yourselves, for your wives are beginning to show that they are not only the better halves of the partnership but the heftier.
To you, apparently, they already leave such effeminacies as dancing, while in every other form of phy- sical recreation organised by the L.C.C. they have outstripped you.
This, at any rate, is the conclu- sion' reached by a study of the figures in a return made to the Ministry of Education.
They Like Dancing There were 2,998 men enthus-- iasts for the 192 classes in clas- sical, country, folk, Green, Mar- garet Morris, Morris and Sword dancing, as against 997 women and 778 at the mixed classes.
