Fierce icy gales and blinding snowstorms are sweeping the northern half of the United

States.

Temperatures are being experienced as low as 37

degrees under zero.

A 61-miles-an-hour gale is lashing the Great Lakes. The Coast Guard reports the heaviest sea for years pounding the eastern shore of Lake Michigan, while thirty-feet waves are turning Lake Erie into a miniature Atlantic.
