The newspapers generally give prominence to Bri- tain's decision to extend credits to China. Reuter understands that a preliminary amount of definitely £500,000. is available immediately without waiting for passage of the new Export Credits Bill, which cannot be completed before the end of February.
However, this is in no way expected to be the limit of the credits to be put at China's disposal.
There is no question at present
of a loan to support the Chinese CABINET
currency, as reported in some newspapers.
For the moment, China's fa- vourable trade balance appears toj be sufficient to support the cur- rency, but if the necessity arises threatening a slump in the dollar, the possibility of China being granted straight financial help is certainly on the cards.
