IN GOLF MONEY MATCHES

SCOTTISH UNION'S ACTION ON BIG

CHALLENGE FOURSOME

(By AIR MAIL)

Glasgow.

TWO declarations of importance were made by the Scottish Golf Union at their annual meeting in Edinburgh one against amateurs taking part in money matches, and the other in favour of the reduction of the power of the ball.

The first of these referred to the £2,000 challenge foursome. in! which Brigadier-General Critchley is to partner Alf Perry against Harry G. Bentley, the Walker Cup player, and Cotton, next month. The originally named stake was £500, but that has since been increased, and a well-known Liverpool sportsman offered to back Bentley and Cotton for £2,000.

Mrs. R. G. J. Kirk, Glas- the president of the gow, Union, announced, at the meeting yesterday, that the Union had been disturbed by the announcement of the match for a large money stake in which amateurs were taking part, and the Union deprecated amateurs taking part in money

matches, and was sending a resolution to that effect to the J.A.C.

view that the R. and A. asked the

Union for their observations on the No general question of reduction. specification was mentioned, and the Union's decision was in general terms in favour of the principle of restricting the ball.

SCOTLAND'S PART

In presenting the annual report, which was adopted, the President re- ferred to the English victory this year in the Unions' internationals, and said that although they congratulated Eng- land, they would like to see Scotland win again next year.
