ITALY'S CANAL CLAIMS
No Good Reason Beyond "General Appeasement"
Strong Comment
In Manchester Guardian
London, To-day.
There is a strong case that the Suez Canal, like other international waterways, should be put under proper international control, states the "Manchester Guardian” in a leader. · The journal adds that it is to be hoped that in bet- ter days that this will be done, but there seems no good reason beyond general appeasement to grant Italy (or for that matter, Nazi Germany
or Japan) a share in the present management.

PLENARY POWER FOR CZECH GOVERNMENT
Prague, To-day.
The Czech Parliament, by 140 votes to 16, accorded the Govern- two ment plenary・・ powers for years.
The Government is thus given a free hand to proceed with plans. for social and economic recon- struction.
When the session-ends this week, Parliament is not likely to meet again until certain parties, includ- ling the Communists, are complete- ¡ly dissolved.
Herr Kundt, leader of the Ger- mans remaining in Czecho- Slovakia, has promised support to the Government "so long as the rights of the minority, whose lead- er is Adolf Hitler, are respected.".
