· The "A" Division of the Men's Badminton League was virtually decided last night when University "A" beat Recreio "A" in the easiest possible manner by 7 games to 2 after clinching the match at 5-1.

Individually the University play- ers could not be said to be as super- for to the Portuguese as the score indicates, but despite the fact that many of the Recreio pairings have not been altered for years, Univers- ity were infinitely better in the matter of combination and rarely, if ever, did they lose points by bad positioning.

The Recreio pair then rallied strongly, went for everything, slow- ly crept up, but, just when it seem- ed they might win the game and level the issue at 2-all, University piled on pressure and went out at 21-16.

M'AVOY FIGHT

Following Ernie Roderick's vic- tory over Gustave Humery at Earls Court, last night, Mr. Stadium Johnny Best. Liverpool promoter, told a reporter that he was prepared to put up a, £2000 purae for a contest between Roderick and Jock M'Avoy, Middle- Weight Champion.

Roderick has another fight on Thursday, when he is to meet Bed Donnas, Welter-Weight Champion of Holland. Mr. Bost explained that, as Roderick was having two contests within four days, his ten rounds bout with Donnas, accor- ding to the rules of the British Boxing Board of Control, would reduced to nine rounds.

Money Matches

A statement may be expected shortly from the Roya. and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews regarding the playing of golf matches for large stakes by amateurs.

I

At a recent meeting of the Scottish Golf Union in Edinburgh it was stated that a protest would be sent to the Joint Advisory Committee of the Bri- tish Golf Unions regarding a money match in which amateurs were to partner professionals.

On the same day the Rules of Golf Committee of the Royal and Ancient Club met in London, and the chairman, Captain Angus V. Hambro, told a re- porter yesterday that the matter of such matches had been discussed. Mr. Henry Gullen, secretary of the club, was asked for a statement, and he re- plied that it would not be possible to issue one for some days, "as other authorities were being consulted."

В

A 72 holes foursome for $1000 side, in which Brigadier-General A. C. Critchley and Alfred Perry, Leather- head professional, are to play against H. G. Bentley and Henry Cotton, was arranged for December 12 (yesterday) at Addington, and December 14 (to- morrow) at Birkdale, Southport.

Critchley stated that if the Royal and Ancient Club deprecated the idea of such a match, he would reconsider the matter.
