Year's Last Macao Race Meet

Mr. C. Encarnacao To Ride Three Favourites: Lamchen Cup Main Event

PLAIN VIEW ABOUT DUE.

FOR A WIN

(By "RAPIER”)

10-MORROW'S meeting at Macao will mark the concluding stage

the year 1938. Owing to quarantine restrictions, which are still in force s.s. "Kinshan" will leave Hong Kong at 9.30 a.m. to-morrow, returning to the Colony at 3.30 a.m. on Monday.

Considerable interest has been added this meeting by the presentation of four cups by Mr. F. J. Gellion, British Vice-Consul at Macao and Chairman of the Club, for the winning owners and jockeys in both sections of the Autumn Handicap for "E" class ponies.

There are altogether seven events being seriously challenged by the on the programme, the last of which others. is reserved for lady riders:

AUTUMN HANDICAP (FIRST SECTION}: HALF A MILE. The opening race of the day is con- fined to China ponies, classified by Hong Kong Jockey Club as "E" class. and I expect to see all taking part.

As a result of winning the Liuchow Handicap, over a mile, at the last meeting, Mac's Adventure has been penalised 4 lbs. and, as it will again be ridden by Mr. C. Encarnacao, and, the distance being, half a mile, it should account for this race, with the only opposition. coming from Stymie (Mr. A. W. Raymond), winner of the Fatshan Handicap at the September meeting.

MACAO

HANDICAP (FIRST SECTION): ONE MILE. This race is confined to subscription ponies of Macao Jockey Club of any season. I expect to see the following starting:---

Fairy Auk (Mr. A. W. Raymond) Fairy Ousel (Mr. S. L. Yuen) Hogmanay (Mr. S. C. Liang) Merry Maker (Mr. B. L_Tao). Shanghai 4 (Mr. C. Encarnacao) Victory Life (Mr. H. P. Chanson). Judging from its win in the Gov- ernor's Cup, over one mile, at the pre- vious meeting, Shanghai 4, which will. again be ridden by Mr. C. Encarnacao, should have no difficulty in winning this race.

This Champion Sub, has been made to carry another 4 lbs., which I think. it can easily handle. As the pony is in splendid condition, I cannot see it

Fairy -Auk is expected to fill second- place, and Merry Maker should not find it too difficult to take the other minor position.

AUTUMN HANDICAP (SECOND SECTION:) HALF A MILE. This race will be contested by an- other batch of "E" class ponies and will be handled by novice jockeys.

I don't think we need look further that the following to battle out the finish:-

Cricketer (Mr. G. W. Cooper) Cloudy Star (Mr. C. F. Chiu) National Dignity (Mr. Yeung

Wing-kwai).

At the last meeting Cricketer and Cloudy Star came in second in their respective outings and as the former is faster over a short distance, I second and National Dignity third. favour it to win with Coloudy Star

KIANG WU HANDICAP: SIX

At the previous meeting Rothesay Bay was second to Merry Maker in the Kiungchow Handicap, over six furlongs, and I nominate it to win here leaving Merry Fatty and Gold Clause to fill the other two positions.

LAMCHEN CUP: 11⁄2 MILES. This is the main event of the meet- ing, and is confined to subs. of the Hong Kong Jockey Club of this sea- son that have started at least once in Macao,

The entries are more or less known to the racing public, and it looks. to me as if Final Triumph (Mr. C. En- carnacao) has the best recommenda- tion for a win, although carrying top weight of 168 lbs.

It came third in the Sub.-Griffins St. Leger, over 1-3/4 miles, at the 10th Extra at the Valley, and I can- not see any of the other ponies ex- tending it, with the possible exception of Wenning (Mr. S. C. Liang) which dead-heated with Easy Time at the 12th. Extra.

Stymie (Mr. A. W. Raymond) has invariably done woll in Macao and
