Thrilling C.B.A. Hockey Win

SCOTTISH CLUB RUGBY

Hillhead Meet With Difficulties

STEWARTS COLL. EXTENDED

(By AIR MAIL)

Club Rugby matches produced few surprises, although the Scot- tish championship leaders, Hill- head High School (F.P.) got a fright from West of Scotland at Hamilton Crescent. Once again W. C. W. Murdock's goalkicking carried them through after they had been behind to a try scored by W. H. Crawford.

Gala and Watsonians, the clubs best prepared to take advantage of any sup by Hillhead, also hau to fight hard.

In the case of Watsonians, however, they were leading Edinburgh Univer- sity when the match was abandonea Gala, with a owing to bad weather. side considerably under strength owing to trial match calls, had to struggle to get the better of a fighting Melville College (F.P.) side.

thrilling encounter in the Hong Kong Hockey Association Tour- nament was witnessed at King's Park yesterday morning, when Central British Association beat Kowloon Indians Tennis Club by 5 goals to 4, after an interval lead of three clear goals. ̈

The Indians were not given a chance to settle down in the first- half, when C.B.A. attack swept them off their feet to register three goals at fairly regular intervals, but they rallied well in the second. half, when they drew level as a result of clever combined-attacks only to see the points snatched away in the last minutes as a result of a magnificent goal by George Fowler.

Partab Singh, the Colony In- terport left-wing, gave a bril- liant display and received staunch support from Pyara Singh, in the centre. Hussein was a weak link in their defence, at right-half, while both indian backs were dangerous and were repeatedly penalised.

Quist obtained permission from the manager of the team, Mr. Harry Hop- man, to give newspapermen a special interview on the S.S. Monterey to clear the air over the trouble at Philadelphia.

"Actually the footfault judge who called me was quite right. But there were factors that were, to say the least, disconcerting. I was not called until nine games had been played and even then it was only the one judge that took action.

"I accepted the decision of the judge without demur. Not once did I say a word in criticism of the judge while on the court. I did discuss with my cap- tain, Harry Hopman, means of over- coming the fault during a rest period in the game. But I say that any charge that I was unsportsmanlike was incorrect.
