CZECHS IN CHAINS

Resist Attempts To Nazify New Country

Twenty years ago the Czechs were celebrating their freedom. By a bloodless revolt they achieved their own liberation from Austro-Hun- garian domination.

On October 30, 1918, the Slovaks joined the Czechs, and the following year the Republic of Czecho-Slovakia was completed by the voluntary inclusion of the Slav province of Sub-Carpathian Ruthenia.

To-day, by an equally bloodless conquest, the Republic lies pro- strate before the Nazi invader. Gone are her democratic ideals and her unity. Her boundaries have shrunk as large slices of her most valu- able territory have been parcelled up between Germany, Hungary and Poland.

Events have moved so fast dur- ing the past two months that it has been difficult, even for the expert. to follow what has been going on. It is possible, now, however, to ap- preciate correctly the effects of the Munich agreement, imposed on the Czechs by Britain, France, Germany and Italy.

GERMAN GAINS

The new frontiers have been traced only partially in accordance with the existing racial borders. Where they differ, important econo- mic and strategic advantages have been conferred upon the stronger, at the cxpense of the weaker, claim- ant.

PIPE DOWN

Herr Julius Streicher, Ger- many's No. 1 Jew-balter, "has declared: “Nicotine is the greatest poison of our nation. Jews taught the Germans to smoke in order to destroy the German: nation and to make money.

"Tobacco reduces the fertility of the German women. We must train German women not to smoke."
