HALL EQUALS GALLACHER'S FEAT

London, November 16.^ The three goals scored in three minutes by G. W. Hall for Eng=" land against Ireland constitutes the fastest scoring feat ever achieved in international matches.

His total of five goals is an Eng- land international record, equalling the performance of Hugh Galla- cher for Scotland against Ireland in 1929. Bambrick, with six ́ goals (including the "double hat trick") for Ireland against Wales in 1980,

England gave a brilliant exhibition of football at Old Trafford yesterday, when they registered their biggest victory over Ireland Bods the international individual for 39 years. Moreover, Lawton led the attack skilfully. Like Matthews, he was extraordinarily quick, and his goal was the best of all.

NO "W" FORMATION

With the halves and backs giving Matthews every possible chance, Stephenson and Smith on the left were overshadowed, but the Leeds United inside left was a very im- portant link in a front line which attacked persistently, with all five men always up together. There was no "W" formation. Undoubtedly these tactics contributed consider- ably to the Ireland defence being overṛun.
