The Imperial Airways liner Calpurnia, which crashed into Lake Irag yesterday. while making a forced landing through a sandstorm, with the loss of one life, the wireless operator, two injured and three missing, flew from Durban to Southampton in April this year in four and a half days, mak- ing the fastest flight with mail and passengers for that route.

CONDOR PLANE BEGINS FLIGHT TO FAR EAST

The German Condor plane, which, in August made a record flight from Berlin to New York and back departed yesterday afternoon at 3.57 o'clock for Tokyo, the flight to be made in four stages with stops at Basra, Karachi, Hanoi and Tokyo.

The flight, it is explained here, is experimental in nature and is being performed in response to an invitation from Japan.

The distance to be covered is 13,450 kilometres.

At 7.30 o'clock, the plane was 60 kilometres south-east of Belgrade and flying at an altitude of 4,500 metres. Trans-Ocean.
