SHARP ATTACK ON MILITARY PREPAREDNESS
London, Yesterday.
The military deliberations in Paris between the British and French Cabinet Ministers are the subject of very severe criticism in the "Daily Telegraph" by the well- known military expert, Major- General Temperley,
His most interesting com- munication is that in the event of a European war in which France is involved, England would at first not be able to put any large army in the field.
Perhaps a part of the stand- ing Army and the Territorial Army could be sent abroad after being sufficiently armed and trained.
But this would take several months in one passage, General Temperley hints at six months- and even then the utmost that England would be able to contri- bute would be fourteen divisions, which is but a very weak. sub- stitute for the 35 Czecho-Slovak divisions upon which France can no longer count.
British military aid, however, judged by the continental scale,. differs to-day from that of 1914, inasmuch as Britain now has. heavy obligations in the Middle East, among which are mainten- ance of a strong garrison in Egypt and two divisions in Palestine.
In addition to that, it is possible that reinforcements from India could not be brought by way of the Mediterranean and Red Sea, while in the Far-East there are new troubles also, since in 1914 "Japan was Britain's ally and at that time danger from the air was virtually non-existent. Trans- Ocean.

SOVIET'S WAR ON CANCER
Moscow, Yesterday. Medical institūtions In Soviet Russia now possess over 3,885 X-Ray installa- tions, declared Professor Graschenkov, assistant People's Commissär for Pa- blic Health, speaking at a meeting here in connection with the Soviet Anti-Cancer Week.
He added that forty institutions have their own radium supplies for curing cancer.
The quantity of radium in med!- cal institutions doubled fast year, and he hoped it would be doubled again in 1939,
The Government had appro- priated large funds for combating
cancer.
Anti-Cancer Weeks are also be- ing held in Kiev, Odessa, Minsk and many other towns.-Reuter.
MILDNESS NOT IN LANGUAGE
-
Rome, Yesterday. "Any form of mildness in con- nection with the racial question is contrary to the spirit of Facism," declared the Fascist Party Secret- ary and Minister, Signor Starace, in addressing dignitaries of the Fascist Party.
"Mildness in this regard would be an expression of middle class thinking, whereas revolutional- ways takes an emphatically transigeant attitude."
in-
Signor Starace then attacked those circles who advocated com- pulsory sterilisation for racial purposes.-Trans-Ocean,
