DRASTIC GERMAN Goering Working On Second Four-Year Plan

The announcement that Field-Marshal Goer- ing will be unable to attend public functions during the coming months on account of pressure of im- portant national work, is regarded as confirming rumours that sweeping changes are being made in the Four Years' Plan, of which the Field-Marshal is Commissioner.

It is suggested that Germany's economic system is being thoroughly overhauled and that there is to be a second term of four years with new aims.

This "Second Four Years' Plan," it is thought, may be devised in conjunction with certain States in south-east Europe. These States would start similar plans to run parallel with that of the Reich.

The unhealthy situation of the Reich export trade has presented a problem the solution of which does not yet seem to be in sight.

missed.”

Strong steps would be taken against firms which failed to fulfil foreign contracts promptly.

In the last 12 months the diffi- culties of Field-Marshal Goering's task have increased almost hourly. During this period the labour short- age.has made itself acutely felt as a serious handicap to the efficient execution of the demands of the plan.

SUDETENLAND PROBLEMS

A further drain caused by the accesssion to Germany of the Sude- ten areas will be the compensation which will have to be paid on the Czech crown notes current in the Sudetenland.

These have been redeemed against reichsmarks at a rate con- siderably higher than the official exchange, with the result that the Reichsbank has accumulated an embarrassing quantity of Czech currency which it did not want.

In the long run the only way, of disposing this is to purchase goods from Czechoslovakia, a pro-
