DEFINITE DECISION EXPECTED

(By “UBIQUE")

THE DECISION OF THE LEAGUE MANAGEMENT COM- MITTEE OF THE HONG KONG FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION NOT TO ACCEPT THE INVITATION OF THE SHANGHAI FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION TO SEND A TEAM NORTH IN FEB- RUARY, FOR FINANCIAL REASONS, MUST HAVE BEEN RE- CEIVED WITH MIXED FEELINGS BY A LARGE NUMBER OF FOOTBALLERS AND FOLLOWERS ALIKE.

Through the axe of economic wielded during the past two seasons, the Association's financial position is fairly sound, although| there is apparently not sufficient in the coffers to enable the Asso- ciation to visit Shanghai.

The credit balance now stands

at a little over $4,000 and the re- DRAW FOR

Referees and linesmen fees and medals are the main items of expen- diture and these amount to a large sum during a season, so that nor- mally the Association actually lives a hand to mouth existence and a visit to Shanghai would probably absorb their reserve and leave little in hand-a position the present committee would not like to see.

The Association does not appear willing to take a gamble with its finances, but they are by no means keen to see the series dropped.

IT IS UNDERSTOOD THAT THE COMMITTEE, HAVE ADD. ED A RECOMMENDATION TO THEIR DECISION THAT, IF THE FINANCIAL POSITION AT THE END OF THE SEASON IS SATISFACTORY, THE INTER- PORT MATTER WILL AGAIN BE BROUGHT UP AND THAT AN ENDEAVOUR WILL BE MADE TO SEND A TEAM UP TO SHANGHAI IN NOVEMBER, 1939, SO THAT SHANGHAI WOULD BE ABLE TO VISIT HONG KONG IN THE SPRING OF 1940.

It will, however, be a source of satisfaction to local football follow- ers and to aspirants for Interport honours to learn that the local As- sociation have communicated with Manila with a view to inviting them here in February, next Chinese New Year.

Manila were-anxious to parti- cipate in the Interport if held in Hong Kong, and, it is certain that they will do their utmost to visit us in the Spring..
