Slovaks Accuse Prague Of Breaking Promise
New President Meeting Left Wing Opposition
Prague, To-day.
A political crisis threatens in Czecho-Slovakia over
the issue of election of a new President to suc-| ceed Dr. Edouard Benes and the Slovak Party's demand for autonomy in their region. Among candidates for the presidency, Dr. Chalkov- sky, the present Foreign Minister, stands the biggest chance of success.
However, strong opposition to him is being offered by left wing- ers who are endeavouring to main- tain the present Government. ·
They would like to postpone the presidential election indefinitely.
The Slovaks are accusing Prague of avoiding the question of auto- nomy promised on October 8.
They insist that Parliament meets on Nov. 17 to deal with the matter, otherwise they threaten to withdraw and to take no further interest in Prague, and to manage their own affairs.-Reuter.

"It is an established fact that the new Slovak government does not live at the mercy of Prague but is clearly. based on the will of the people. This fact might be express- ed by a plebiscite.
