R.A.F. Plane Shot Down By Arabs
Jerusalem, To-day.
A British military aeroplane was shot down by Arab irregulars yesterday near the village Illar in the Samaria district. The pilot of the plane had been wounded by a rifle bullet and the petrol tank had been punctured so that the machine was compelled to make a forced land- ing.
Before the landing, however, the pilot had com- municated with headquarters by wireless and a detachment of infantry arrived at the spot a few minutes later by automobile dispersing the Arabs and killing one who was still ex- amining the fallen aeroplane.
