When he emerged from partial etirement in 1936 to solve Glou-| cestershire's problem of finding a captain following the tragic death
of D. A. C. Page. Allen did so at considerable personal sacrifice,

Details of the present proposal.have been sent by the LT.A. to Great Bri- tain's ranking players. Briefly the suggestion is that if a player swinga his foot over the line in serving, ho must place it on the ground again be- hind the base line before advancing.
One of the advantages claimed for the proposal, according to a statement| – signed by the secretary of the L.T.A., which appears in the Association's of- ficial journal, is that there would bo no swinging foot to observe, but only the position of the feet on the ground.
It is emphasised too that no would need to change his or her pre- sent. service action; foot-swingers, which includes the majority of players, would need to stand further back- "as they should under the present law" and the prohibition against jum- ping would disappear.

The ranked players are asked to try it out and then to report their obser- vations to the Players' Contact Com- mittee. Afterwards the proposition may be put on the agenda for annual general meeting of the L.T.A. on December 9.

OHN HENRY LEWIS, holder, who retained his title in last Friday's all-black light-heavy-weight world's championship fight with Al Gainer.
Lewis defeated Gainer on points over 12 rounds in 1986, but since that time Gainer has come on a good deal, while Lewis, if he has not gone back a trifle, has incurred weight difficulties.
Al Gainer's chief claim to boxing fame is his knock-out victory over "Two-Ton Tony" Galento, the fighter who was originally selected as Lewis's opponent in the title contest, but had to withdraw from the engagement ow. ing to an attack of pneumonia.
