Beats Mike Belloise: Ready For Ginger Foran !

George James, Welsh .. heavy. weight champion, defeated Paul Wallner (Germany) at Cardiff last night, the referee stopping the contest at the end of the fifth round.

James at the outset relied mainly on light loft leads, but the German did well to drive the Welshman back_with`rights ˆ to the head. In the second roundly James opened cuts on Wallner's eyes, and subsequently both men. stood too to too exchanging pun- chee. From the third to the

fifth round the Welsh champion landed blow after, blow without reply, and it came as no surprise- when the refores intervenêd.

New York, October 18. Jole Archibald, a medical student at Providence University, won the feather-weight championship of the world when he decisive- outpointed Mike Belloise, a former world champion, over 15 rounds at the St. Nicholas Arena, New York, last night.

After the fight at Weill, Archi-| Archibald, a stocky Anglo-Irish- bald's manager said, "If Ginger man from Rhode Island, dominated Foran wants us over in England, almost every moment of a gruelling we are ready to defend the title contest, Belloise taking only the against him in London. Just let first, eighth, and twelfth rounds. us know the terms.”

Under a hail of dynamite blows,

ANOTHER FIGHT FOR

KID BERG

New York, October 19.—Jack ("Kid") Borg, the former British Light-Weight Champion, who has been touring the United States as a welter-weight, will have his fourteenth fight in this country. when he meets Joey Greb, a 24- year-old experienced New York boxer at the Bronx Coliseum here on October 25,

to

Berg, who has won eleven and drawn one of his previous thirteen bouts, will have to be at his best dispose of the young New Yorker, who has lasted the dis- tance with Lou Ambers, the former world light-weight champion.

Belloise did amazingly well to last the distance. He was hounded about by the bull-like rushes of his opponent, who invariably scored with blows to the face and stomach. Both of the combatants fell out of the ring, when they got entangled after one of Archibald's attacks.

“MEANT BUSINESS”

Up to the sixth round Belloise had been inclined to adopt a patronising attitude towards his less-experienced rival, but he soon realised that Archibald meant business, and changed his tactics. Belloise drew blood from Archi- bald's left eye, his cheek, and his head, but, in spite of the blood and the closing of his eye, the plucky student gave ground only long en- ough to take a brief rest.

At the weight-in Belloise scaled 8 st 134 lbs and Archibald 8st 1234lbs.

The National Boxing Associa- tion of America decided that they would not recognise the fight as for the world title. They declared, however, that they would acclaim the winner champion of New York, and that he would then be able to. meet Leo Rodak, the Chicago boxer, who heads their ranking lists, for the world title.

FARR ASKED TO RETURN LONSDALE BELT

(By AIR MAIL)

London, October 17. Tommy Farr has been asked to return to the British Boxing Board of Control, the Lonsdale belt, which he won when he de- feated Ben Foord for the Brit Ish Heavy Weight Champion- ship eighteen months ago. It is understood that the belt is not yet in possession of the Board.

Farr has won it only once, and he has, therefore, to return it, so that it can be presented to the new champion, either Len Harvey or Eddie Phillips, who meet for the heavy-weight title at Harringay Arena on Novem- ber 17:

The belt, which contains a con- siderable amount of gold, is us- ually deposited in a bank by the holder, and it probably still is in London, although Farr is in America.
