S. Smith Leads In Gold Cup Snooker Tie

The honours were shared by Willie Smith and Sidney Smith in the first session of their heat in the Daily Mail Gold Cup handicap snooker tourna- ment at Thurston's, London, each player winning three frames, but in the second session S. Smith won five of the six frames, and led at the end of the day by eight frames to four.

Safety tactics by both men do- minated most of the early session play, and the best breaks were only 88 by S. Smith and 22 by W. Smith.

Sidney Smith concedes his opponent seven points in each frame, in a match which extends to 71 frames.
