SMALL FORTUNE FOR LUCKY PUNTER
Daily Double Event Will Be Main Feature At 9th Extra Meeting
CONFUSION BAY FAVOURED FOR H.K. GRIFFINS CUP
(By “RAPIER")"
HERE is every reason to anticipate a large gathering at the Happy Valley. There will again be eight events, but "A" Class China and Australian ponies will not be on view, and the long await- ed-clash between the best of them will not materialise until later in the year.
It is confidently expected, how- ever, that the various races to- morrow will be contested at a much faster pace than hitherto, due to the fact that the grass track has by now fully recoverea from the strain of the past two meetings and the fine, weather of the last few days should have hardened the track.
RACE NO. 1 WYNDHAM HANDI- CAP: ONE MILE. The day's programme will open with a-race for the first section of the "B" Class China ponies, in which seven of them will compete provided they all accept. After its effortless win in the Kwangsi Handicap at the last meeting, Red Feather, which will again be ridden by Mr. P. Y. T. Wei, has only been penalised three pounds. This seems hardly sufficient to prevent this pony from winning! again as it is in fine form at the mo- ment.
It has to be remembered however, that Wild Life (Mr. Hearne) is also in the race, Wild Life came second to Expression Time on. two occasions and in it does not beat Red Feather, i.
stable wil certainly give its
com- panion a great fight for honours. Then there is Ŭak Bay (Mr. Raymond) which will be running with 9 lbs. less, but I really doubt whether it will be good enough over a mile, although I recall that it has a win over the same distance to its credit, but that time it was only carrying 140
lbs.
Jober (Mr. Raymond) Moonlight View (Mr. Pih) Although Confusion Bay is an "A" Class pony, I am afraid that it will have to run extremely well to win as it will be carrying 168 lbs, as against 140 lbs. by Jober. Carrying 168 lbs., Moonlight View will find the task a little too heavy, so that it will be left to Expression Time (Mr. Needa) to take up the battle against Confusion Bay and Jober.
the finish, with Rose-Queon as a de- cided danger as it has been reducing in weight. With only 140 lbs. to carry, Laughing Girl is a good bet; .but somehow I cannot see it winning. I cannot understand why Just In Time, having been beaten by Tampa Bay,

BALLARAT HANDICAP: FROM THE 1 MILE POST: This is a sprint event in "C" Cia83 Australian ponies will par- ticipate. A good start here will make all the difference between winning and Josing, and I would suggest that a careful note be taken of the draw for positions. A Great Time (Mr. P. L. Jui) will again have to carry the maximum load of 165 lbs., al- though Brutus (Mr. Pih), has been penalised 5 lbs. These two are cap- able of winning, although the latter seems to prefer a longer distance. The best bet, however, should be Violet Queen. I am nominating it in spite of the terrible manner in which It let its backers down at the last meeting, but it would be well to re- member that at the 7th extra, Vio e Queen won the Gosford Handicap (six furlongs) without being fully extended. Bredon (Mr Proulx) is another pony with a birong recom- mendation for a win, though it will have to run straight this time as any boring out will only rob it of a chance of winning.
A Lovely Time will grain be ridden by Mr. Neede, and although this pony is gradually improving, I doubt who- ther it can do better, than place. Twilight Star (Mr. S. W. Tang) ràn badly in last outing and so I am not prepared to recommend it. The finish of this "race should be fast and exciting, with Violet Queen

RACE NO. 7: NULLAH NULLAH HANDICAP: 11⁄4 MILESSON
This is the second leg of the daily. double, and a small fortune awaits those who make the right connection. Tornado Star, winner of the Rooty Hill Derby, and Katinka, winner of the Manly Handicap at the 6th Extra, are given top weights of 165 lbs. They will be ridden by Mr. S. W. Tang and....... Mr. V. V. Needa respectively.
In morning training, Tornado Star appears to have been the fittest of the two, and it has a good chance of win-· ning here. On account of the low weight which it will be carrying (140) Ibs.); Snowy River, (Mr. Raymond) is a decided menace.
Ranger will be ridden by Mr. Col- son, with 5 lbs. allowance, and provided should it can get away quickly, it prove dangerous. Tórnądo Star should win, with Katinka giving_it_a good fight, and Snowy River, as the: pony to cause the upset.
RACE NO.: 8: KWANGTUNG HANDICAP: ONE MILE.
Twenty-six ponies have been enter ed for this race, which is the last of the day, and we may aspect, to seo tho biggest field facing the starter. 1. think we need only look among the following for the winner: ・・
Coronation Day (Mr. H. P. Chanson) The Leopard (Mr. P. Y. T. Wel) Fei Ying (Mr. Raymond)": Piet Hein (Mr. Pih); 2N Savage-Master (Mr. B. L. Tao) Valorous (Mr. 'Needa):"...
Salynge-Master will have to carry 165 lbs., an increase of 18 lbs., for taking second place to Gold Coin in the Hunan Handicap at the last meet- Ing. On account of its present form,
I believe this pony can still win de- epite its heavy burden.. Fél. Ying (144 lbs) is certainly dangerous
CO., LTD. contender here, but, with 108 lbs, to
carry, I doubt whether Valorous can do better than take third place. I nominate Salvage-Master to win, with Fel. Ying second and, Valorous third.
